Loving What Is

The problem with insomnia is not with the untimely and infinite thoughts. The “problem” with insomnia is you, not feeling comfortable with the thoughts that you think of.
I enjoy lying on my bed at 5am in the morning, eyes wide open, because it is what I am doing. It is, as it is, and I love what is.

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80′s arrived at the hospital to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. The nurse took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would be able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor’s appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer’s Disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now. I was surprised, and asked him, ‘And you still go every morning, even though she doesn’t know who you are?’ He smiled as he patted my hand and said, ‘She doesn’t know me, but I still know who she is.’

Jeremy Bentham on Meat eating

The question is not, “Can they reason?” nor “Can they talk?” but, “CAN THEY SUFFER?”

Aspiration for the Dragon Lunar Year

May I accept things as they are.

I wish you happiness and well-being, but I cannot make your choices for you or control the way things are.

Just as I want to be free from suffering, may all beings be free from suffering.

May I have ease of well being
May all beings have ease of well being

May I be protected and safe
May all beings be protected and safe

May I be happy.
May all beings be happy

May all beings be safe, happy, healthy and free from suffering.
May all beings be liberated.

May I accept things as they are.

THIS IS moment

Just when I thought that I had life perfectly in balance and well grasped within my fingertips, something major falls in like a hurricane and wipes off that very last hope that keeps the smug on my face.

Don’t we all feel that way at multiple points of our life?

When things turn bad, we magnify these negative emotions to the extend that nothing positive is left on our homescreen. So the ego plays a judgemental part. If there was less judging on my part, then things wouldn’t be that ugly.

When there is no one judging, we can finally see the familiarity of events. That we have once felt this way and that we had gone thru these feelings and lived thru it. In fact, we’ve lived to tell and share every challenging story of our lives.

I have realised that life can be sinusoidal in nature. However, it is the mind of a person that judges if it is a sine or straight line curve.

If sine makes you happy then sine it is, for with every downward plunge, there will be an upward spike! Full of up and downs. And if that motivates you, so be it!

If it is perceived as a straight line, so be it! Everything is of equal and opposite in nature. If that rocks your boat, so be it!

Whatever you think is right, IT IS right, at that point of time.

Whatever you think is wrong, IT IS wrong, at that point of time.

Whatever you think is right and wrong, IT IS right and wrong, at that point of time.

BECAUSE THIS TOO, SHALL PASS AND NOTHING PREVAILS!

"In the end
these things matter most:
How well did you love?
How fully did you live?
How deeply did you let go?"
— Siddhārtha Gautama (via fearlessprincess, quote-book) (via happythings)
"I’ve been making a list of the things they don’t teach you at school. They don’t teach you how to love somebody. They don’t teach you how to be famous. They don’t teach you how to be rich or how to be poor. They don’t teach you how to walk away from someone you don’t love any longer. They don’t teach you how to know what’s going on in someone else’s mind. They don’t teach you what to say to someone who’s dying. They don’t teach you anything worth knowing."
